Experience:I focus on encouraging academic growth while ensuring students feel supported. I first started tutoring when I was in college. I was asked by one of my friends to help her keep her grades up, and so I did. I saw immense progress from her, and she was thankful every day after that. I thought I could help other students like her who needed it. They say I am very calm in the way I explain the subject to them, and it was easy for them to grasp because of that.
Approach:I tell my tutees that studying a subject matter is not about memorizing, rather it is about understanding exactly what is written on the page. The easiest way to understand is to keep reading again and again until you feel confident, then try to explain it to someone else or say it out loud to yourself. There are different techniques and everyone has their own ways of understanding things, and I use that to tailor my lesson plan according to each student. I myself earned a 4.0 GPA in college and was a top three student in high school.
