Primary teaching PGCE and BA Honours degree in English and History

Experience:

I am an experienced primary school teacher who has moved from the UK to teach in Doha. I have experience throughout KS1 and KS2 and am confident in my English Language skills at any level. I have a degree in English Literature and History and later took an additional PGCE in Primary education in order to teach. I think it’s important to make teaching fun and interactive to keep children engaged, help them to develop a passion for learning and make all their learning worth while.

Approach:

Firstly, I would listen to what you want your child to work on and then do a baseline assessment to assess any gaps in their previous learning. Once these gaps have been identified, I would plan lessons based around these areas. I would try to keep lessons as interactive and personalised to your child’s needs as possible and I am very flexible if things need to be changed on the spot. Alternatively, if you would like me to communicate with your child’s classroom teacher, to ensure that we are covering the same things at home as your child is in school, then that would be no problem. I believe that lots of discussion and explanations are key to good learning and help with developing a varied vocabulary. It is also essential to tailor learning to your child’s personal needs and interests, which is something that I would happily do each week. I can teach any subject on the national curriculum confidently however, I would say that my strengths are English grammar, reading, writing, history, geography and maths.
