Qualification:

Computer Science degree with PGCE

Experience:

• Teaching classes of 30 pupils aged year 7 to 11 at KS3 and KS4 preparing for Computer Science GCSE and Maths KS3

• Lesson plans developed to emphasis on numeracy and literacy framework in the context of ICT

• Devising a comprehensive learning programme using a range of interactive resources

• Teaching a range of abilities using the person-centred model

Approach:

contributing to the development of the department’s schemes of work, where I designed and modernised the Shark Game in Scratch Programming. Creating an aide memoire to assist pupils with the lesson. The original programme was irrelevant for the updated version of Scratch I was operating. The aide memoire devised comprised of screenshots and annotations on how to create the game including step by step guidance. The Work Booklet was designed to start with simplified tasks for ALN then progressively becoming difficult, concluding with a challenge for MAT students to complete with limited guidance. I also effectively develop opportunities for pupils to reinforce and develop literacy and numeracy skills in the context of ICT prioritising and organising the relevant steps needed to complete the task or reach a solution, applying key mental facts and strategies. This unit is now an integral part of the scheme of work and is taught by other teachers within the department. If appointed, I would be more than prepared to contribute towards innovation and change at in general and to the ICT Department in particular. Indeed, I would welcome the opportunity of developing schemes of work, teaching resources and strategies to accommodate the changes to the Literacy and Numeracy framework in the same way that I have embraced such opportunities upon my teaching placement. I have attempted throughout to use a range of creative and inspiring approaches to motivate pupils towards achieving the maximum of their potential in the context of learning Computer Science and ICT within the Digital Competence Framework (DCF). One example of this was introducing Kahoot, a game-based learning platform, used as educational technology in schools. I created a multi choice quiz on Scratch Block Programming, motivating the pupils to participate with the interactive learning. This lesson plan also covered the numeracy framework, encouraging interaction with confidence and an enjoyable learning experience. In this respect I have made every effort to ensure that the pupils developed a range of skills, with a particular emphasis upon numeracy skills and literacy skills. I have been able to plan and teach lessons to fully engage young people of all abilities including pupils with ALN and More Able and Talented pupils (MAT). I created extension tasks for MAT pupils to challenge their intellect and learning ability. For ALN pupils I utilised writing frames – differentiation, to encourage motivation and concentration when struggling with tasks set.
