I am an Engineer and I have past experience as private tutor.

Experience:

I am an Electrical Engineer. I have vast knowledge in Engineering mathematics (algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc). I taught mathematics and physics to elementary and high school students in our country. I also became a teacher in KUMON (a math learning center). Thus, I learnt their way of teaching the students.

Approach:

I am usually conducting an assessment to my students. I should know first their level of understanding in mathematics. It is like, I cannot teach a student on how to perform Division, if he/she does not know how perform Multiplication. Thus, I should teach multiplication first or do a separate activity/exercises to practice multiplication. By doing this, my student would easily perform division especially long division. Mathematics has a lot of "pre-requisite topics". Before I spend time teaching a required math topic (class topic), I have to make sure that my student should understand the basic / foundation of that specific topic. For example, if my student would ask me to teach him/her on how to plot points on a coordinates (analytic geometry for example), I should check first if he/she understand the "positive" and "negative" signs or even give a sample test about it to make a appropriate assessment. My way of teaching is some kind of irritating to my students, especially for impatient one. But, I have my way to make them understand why they have to go through the process. I am also explaining to the parents so they can be aware and they can set their expectations.
