The association of Pakistanis with Qatar can be traced back since 1940 when a lot of Muslims from undivided India used to go the peninsular Arab country for livelihood. They were mainly professionals seeking jobs in the service sector. Later when Doha, after the British protectorate in 1971 was declared as the capital of the state of Qatar, more Pakistanis from the newly formed country named Pakistan started visiting and settling there as expatriates. The reason behind lies the flourishments of the oil and gas companies. Pakistanis residing in Doha wanted a Pakistani educational curriculum for their children and the rise of Pakistani schools started from then. PEC (Pakistan Education Center) was formed in 1967 then affiliated with the Lahore Board of Higher Secondary School Examinations. There are four Pakistani schools in Doha and 1 educational institute.
