Qatar is Aiming at a World-Class Education System – A Synopsis

Qatar made it clear that education is going to be the prime concern for the overall development. At Qatar Foundation, education is the leading aspect. Learning opportunities are given to students of all ages and capabilities in terms of preschool to postgraduate studies. 

The Supreme Education Council (SEC) of Qatar has aspiring plans for the educational system. It is investing heavily in boosting educational standards. 

Qatar’s school system is segregated into 3 levels:

• Elementary school for ages 6 to 12
• Preparatory school for ages 12 to 15
• Secondary school for ages 15 to 18.

Among these, the elementary and preparatory school are compulsory. Students who can continue to the secondary school may select between the academic course for preparing for the university or a vocational course for getting ready for the labor market. 

The Ministry of Education and the Higher Education is still going on with the implementation of the plan of 2017-2022 that targets to develop a world-class educational system.

In address to a press conference, Dr. Ibrahim Bin Salem Al-Nuaimi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of education and Higher Education, stated that the 5-year strategy highlights off the provision of the suitable training for the teachers for equipping them to make an important contribution to the society while enhancing the core values and traditions of the Qatari society simultaneously.

The Ministry is undertaking a host of programs that include the improvement of the pre-school education and connection of higher education with the job market.

Wish of Al-Nuaimi:

Al-Nuaimi’s wish is to make the students, teachers, parents and the partners of the educational process successful in the new academic year. As per him, the ministry has already done the entire preparations for the classes to start in upcoming academic-year and things are happening presently.

In public school, the total number of teachers has increased up to approximately 13, 440. In private schools, there are approximately 13,591 teachers. He highlights of the new academic year have thrown lights on the opening of the Qatar Science and Technology School, Development of the Technical Education, improvement of the services for the students with disabilities, and gifted learners. 

According to Al-Nuaimi, kindergartens and 14 schools will be launched that will provide above 5056 classrooms and bring the total number of kindergartens and public schools to 272. However, the number of kindergartens ad the private schools have touched 282 embracing the total enrolment of 190,644 students.

Again, in the matter of higher education, al-Nuaimi identified the presence of 24 institutions in Qatar that involves colleges, universities, and institutes holding international status in terms of best practices and academic and research programs.

Stress was given on the role of parents in the education process. The tone of the most effective ways is the partnership between the parents and the schools for increasing the students’ academic performance. It is also one of the best ways for improving their behavioral and social levels. The students whose parents take part in education learn fast and become more motivated. These students have the enthusiasm to attend school, boast higher academic degrees, develop excellent behavioral and social skills, and graduate from the high schools for furthering their education in the universities.

Primary and secondary education through the schools is offered that is directly operated by the Qatar Foundation. The programs of the higher education contain partnerships with few of the top universities of the world and the homegrown university. 

Vision:

The vision was to provide World-Class Education to Qatar people when the Education City was conceived for the first time. Over the past 23 years, the distinct project has successfully brought about that is beyond the goal. The outcome is the world-class academic hub’ that offers unparallel initiatives and opportunities.

For more than a couple of decades, efforts are paced on driving regional innovation, nurturing social development, and making the students prepare for handling the biggest challenges that can show up tomorrow.
