CILIP: The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals formally accredited the MA in Library and Information Studies at UCL Qatar. It was recognized as the first degree program of its kind in that zone. It gives the students entry to the world-class program. In 1919, UCL officially settled the first program in leadership in the UK.
UCL Qatar Program: Strength
The strength is to particularize as per the learner’s specific interests in the management and leadership in libraries, librarianship for the education sector, or Arabic and Islamic librarianship. What is the course structure?
The specific program contains a total value of 180 credits. 3 core modules with 45 credits are there. The learners have to choose one distinct path for following that allows additional core modules with 45 credits. The pupils select two additional modules either from a specialism or the optional modules list with 30 credits. The students have to complete a dissertation with 60 credits.
What is the mode of study?
It is a course of 1 year. A full-time mode is available.
What are the entry requirements?
Bachelor’s Degree:
The students must possess a Bachelor’s Degree with Second Class Honours as per the UK system. Also, the students should have a GPA of 3.0 on the 4.0 scale as per the UK system. The candidate can have an equivalent standard of qualification.
English Language:
Overall IELTS 6.5 with no component that is lower than IELTS 6.0. The students who don’t have English as their first language need to appear for an English language examination.
For the entry, there are no pre-requisites for the subjects. The students are required to demonstrate solid motivation for the particular subject to which they have filled the application through the application form’s personal statement section. The relevant work experience is also taken into consideration.
What are the tuition fees and funding?
For the year 2019-20, the full-time fees are 99,900 Qatari Riyals.
Is there any scholarship?
Several scholarships are available for the candidates who had succeeded. Funding is awarded to the candidates depending on the financial requirement and academic excellence. The offer holders are entitled to apply for the availing fund.

About the Compulsory Modules:
The course of Reference and Information Service make the students prepared for providing good quality reference support to the scholars and the public via a detailed introduction to the information resources in the form of digital and print. The students get to acquire the knowledge about the control, recording, and exchange of the information that is published inclusive of the dissemination patterns and the control of the distinct subjects’ literature. The module will be indoctrinated via practical work and seminars that include electronic and printed formats. The critical review of the information source along with an elucidated bibliography essay will be included in the coursework.
About the Knowledge Organization and Access:
Practical work in the application of the standards for the description of the subject mainly Library of Congress Subject Headings, Universal Decimal Classification (UDC), Dewey Decimal Classification, and the classification schemes of Library of Congress
About the research methods in Information and Library Science:
The course involves a run-through of the multidisciplinary research methods applied for the study of libraries, museums, and cultural heritage institutions. The model aims at introducing the students to the various methods of documentation and the critical evaluation of the museum and the heritage practice, from the several viewpoints of many overlapping disciplines and the methodologies that have tied up with the heritage practice.
